Basic Training

This piece was all kinds of difficult: destined to go to the Visual Art Scholastic Event this Saturday, it had to be as perfect as I could make it. My art teacher stressed this almost as much as she stressed me out, bringing up new requirements all the time. It's only through the help of one of someone super-kind in the classroom that I was able to finish at all today!

At any rate, I really love this piece- it was drawn with a reference picture of my mother when she was in basic training, so it's relatively personal. It's meant to not only convey the feelings of someone going through such training, but the idea that life takes us from an innocent, pure being to a tough human capable of taking a lot of stress and pain.

This took about 7 hours total, and has India ink, Prismacolor, ebony pencil, 8B pencil, and the wire I cut from a dog gate. It took a lot of work, but I really do love this piece! Hope you guys like it, too
